In 2010, Eric Stroud, shark enthusiast, bought a church in the small town of Canajoharie, NY in order to take advantage of the immaculate organ that it houses. In the summer of 2011, he opened its doors for a weekend to let 13 bands stay, play and record. This is documentary of that weekend. Despite this being a “church” retreat, there was nothing really religious about it except for the fact that Eric’s a saint for letting us do this! Please don’t miss it. The Benedict Arnold Trade School record release show was a huge hit. Dead Unicorn killed it! Can’t wait to have them back…In other news. The Melissa & Paul double 7″ was mailed out today to be pressed. See what they have to say about it HERE. We should have that in our hands in a month’s time. In the meantime, check out their kickstarter HERE. Also, Mister Snake are wrapping up the recording/artwork process for their upcoming tape. Looks like 2011 is off to a good start for Bedside Manner! Keep checking back for more updates. I can tell you we have another Velvet Suit Interview in the works and we’re going to be posting video from the acoustic show at Eyeconik Records last Sunday.
I’m going to go with a firm NO. I’ve been having a lot of positive thoughts and feelings about the “scene,” lately and when I think about it, 3 distinct places or home bases if you will, come to mind: the Stanhope House, Eyeconik Records and Good Friend Electric– a music/art collective that lurks in the Underground of Brooklyn, NY. All three places have a handle in building/rebuilding this little community of musicians we have going on and all 3 places are made up of a small but growing group of dedicated people. GFE recently posted a note on facebook about their, for lack of a better term, eviction. Does this mean the collective responsible for Local Music February in the first place is dead? I don’t think so. GFE is what it is because of the ideas and the people behind them. It doesn’t matter where they’re housing their all night jammin’ dance binges as long as the hardworking people with the crazy ideas are still fueling them (which they are) and they’re still going with the craziest ideas they have instead of holding back. Expect GFE to take this hit, but to move on from it and to continue to flourish and expand. After all, GOOD FRIEND ELECTRIC IS PEOPLE. I know a lot of people have expressed their concern and support for the collective and that just shows that the community still thrives. So, we here at Bedside Manner bid you luck Good Friend Electric, and our support is with you. Click readmore for Tyler’s statement and the uproar of comments that followed. Oh…and a special little clip ;)…
If you’re checking this, chances are you know that our site has been down for quite some time now. We’re working on salvaging all of the material so we don’t have to start from complete scratch. This will be our new temporary home where you can expect a lot of updates on bands and other stuff we love/hate. Stay tuned, we’ll try to keep it fresh for y’all. We currently have the Mister Snake tape project in the works.
Also, we’ll be posting stuff here about our friends that may not necesarily be directly affiliated with Bedside Manner. With that said North Jersey’s Control announced that the tracking for their yet-to-be titled full length is complete and the mixing starts this week. The album will feature 11 songs and it is set to be released early next year with no label backing.
Earth Stood Still and Captives teamed up to start the post-hardcore quartet about two years ago. With two self released EP’s, the band draws comparison to Rival Schools, Quicksand, Brand New and maybe even a little Snapcase. The track listing, title and artwork should be available soon. Check Control’s facebook or myspace page (www.myspace.com/controlisaband) for the most current updates. In the meantime, check out this studio footage from early on in the sessions. Do it quick though; it will be down soon!:
Just got the unmixed sessions from the Mister Snake tape sessions and boy do they rule! Heavy Sabbath worship and punk as fuck vocals. Mister Snake offer two distinct bass sounds/styles for a powerhouse rhythm section with bratty yet melodic vocals. Expect this early next year on Bedside Manner. Keep checking on for more updates and other Bedside Manner news.
